BIOGRAPHY
The Chicago Academy of Fine Art was first on my list after arriving in Chicago, then it was on to the American Academy of Art. After two years at the American Academy I moved on to the Illinois Institute of Design. Here I was provided additional instruction in specific areas of design and photography by two of Chicago's finest designers.
Initially I favored the Chicago Academy because they offered a course in cartooning. I thought cartooning might be my first love in the art world. Not to be. Maybe it was because of the instructor, or maybe just me. Illustration also attracted some attention, but after viewing some of the big names from the New York area showing their work at one of the well known Chicago studios I was either frightened off, or, completely realistic. Then something curious happened. By accident, or was it an accident? ... I discovered some current editions of Graphis magazine. Their content made me aware of design and this proved to play a very important part in my future.
Layout and design seemed to come
rather easily. And, it was FUN! Drawing has always been important.
Important because work
should contain an element of pleasure, and,
drawing is pleasure. A career in the commercial art field was a mixture
of these interests. A fulfilling experience in the commercial art field
was augmented in other related areas such as film making, photography
and business meeting production. But nothing seems more gratifying than
being able to draw, design and paint. And to simply do only those things
I chose to do. The drawings and paintings represented on these pages
demonstrate a constant desire to experiment with various approaches and
different mediums.
This is your invitation to An Art Experience.
I hope you will view it
with pleasure.
